Zone 3 is pleased to announce the winners of its annual fiction, poetry, and nonfiction contests: Darius Atefat-Peckham, Kathryn Nuernberger, and Heather Turbeville.
Fiction

Heather Turbeville received an MFA from Emerson College and a BA in creative writing from Florida State University. She lives in San Francisco, where she works as an editor, writes fiction, and volunteers with Litquake.
Poetry
“Monet’s Garden” by Darius Atefat-Peckham (selected by Andrea Spofford)
Darius Atefat-Peckham is an Iranian-American poet and essayist. His work has appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, Texas Review, Zone 3, The Chattahoochee Review, Brevity, Crab Orchard Review and elsewhere. His work has appeared in numerous anthologies, including My Shadow is My Skin: Voices from the Iranian Diaspora (University of Texas Press). Atefat-Peckham lives in Huntington, West Virginia and studies Creative Writing at Harvard.
Nonfiction
“Marie Laveau” by Kathryn Nuernberger (selected by Amy Wright)
Kathryn Nuernberger’s latest book is The Witch of Eye, which is about witches and witch trials. She is also the author of the poetry collections, RUE, The End of Pink, and Rag & Bone, as well as a collection of lyric essays, Brief Interviews with the Romantic Past. Her awards include the James Laughlin Prize from the Academy of American Poets, an NEA fellowship, and notable essays in the Best American series. She teaches poetry and nonfiction for the MFA program at University of Minnesota.
