Zone 3 is pleased to announce the winners of its annual fiction, poetry, and nonfiction contests: Matthew Fiander for his story “Five Variations on Parnell’s Blues” (Fall 2019); Sarah Fawn Montgomery for her essay “In Praise of the Plains” (Spring 2019); and Jasmine Dreame Wagner for her poem “Sandy” (Fall 2019).

Sarah Fawn Montgomery is the author of Quite Mad: An American Pharma Memoir (The Ohio State University Press), and the poetry chapbooks Regenerate: Poems of Mad Women, Leaving Tracks: A Prairie Guide, and The Astronaut Checks His Watch. Her work has been listed as notable several times in Best American Essays, and her poetry and prose have appeared in various magazines.
Jasmine Dreame Wagner is an American poet and multimedia artist. She is the author of On a Clear Day (Ahsahta Press); Rings, winner of the Kelsey Street Press Firsts! Prize; and six chapbooks. In 2019, she was awarded a WPR Creative Grant from Harvard University.
